For Village Trustee - Nominated for Second 2-year Term: Deborah Sill Kliman.
Debbie was born and grew up in Hamilton, graduating from HCS in 1959 as Valedictorian. She has her BA from Vassar College and her MA from The Bank Street College. She then taught first grade and directed a Head Start program near Princeton, NJ., where she met her future husband, Harvey, who was completing his doctorate in Physical Chemistry at Princeton. They moved to Delaware in 1968, where Debbie took a position at the University of Delaware and Harvey was employed by the DuPont Company.
After receiving her doctorate in Developmental Psychology, Debbie was a staff psychologist at a private agency in Wilmington, DE and began private practice in clinical psychology. Meanwhile, she and Harvey moved to Chadds Ford, PA where they started an educational and support group for people with Lyme disease, prompted by Debbie's 2 bouts with Lyme.
Debbie and Harvey frequently came to Hamilton during these years to visit Debbie's mother, Patty Sill. When they decided to retire in 2006, they moved to Debbie's family home on West Pleasant St.
Since returning to Hamilton, the Klimans have been active in many community organizations. In addition to serving as Village Trustee, Debbie currently serves as Treasurer of Mid-York Senior Homes (Madison Lane) and Secretary of the Southern Madison Heritage Trust. She's a member of Rotary and the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteers at the hospital desk. She is a member of the Life Long Learning Board and supports the Chenango Canal Association. She and Harvey taught a course on Lyme and Tick-borne Diseases for the Life Long Learning Program.
In addition to all the general tasks as a Village Trustee, Debbie has many specific responsibilities. She serves on the Zoning Revision Committee and is Liaison to the Historical Commission, the Library Board, the Shared Services Committee, the Recreation Commission, the Syracuse Symphony Committee, and the Parks Advisory Committee which the Mayor asked her to create and organize.
You may have seen Debbie striding around the village she loves, because she is an avid walker and hiker, and walks almost every day for exercise. She enjoys cooking, reading, biking, music, and birding. She continues the Sill family's identification with the Hamilton First Baptist Church serving as the Assistant Treasurer. But, she varies from family tradition by being a Democrat who is very active in the Village Democratic Committee, and serves as the Village Liaison to the Town of Hamilton Democratic Committee.
