For Village Trustee: Deborah Sill Kliman. 2010-0615 Election DSK tiny photo           [Link to Supporting Letters]

Debbie was born and grew up in Hamilton, graduating from HCS in 1959 as Valedictorian. She has her BA from Vassar College and her MA from The Bank Street College.  She then taught first grade and directed a Head Start program near Princeton, N.J., where she met her future husband, Harvey, who was completing his doctorate in Physical Chemistry at Princeton. They moved to Delaware in 1968, where Debbie took a position at the University of Delaware and Harvey was employed by the DuPont Company.

After receiving her doctorate in Developmental Psychology, Debbie was a staff psychologist at a private agency in Wilmington, DE and began private practice in clinical psychology. Meanwhile, she and Harvey moved to Chadds Ford, PA where they started an educational and support group for people with Lyme disease, prompted by Debbie's 2 bouts with Lyme.

Debbie and Harvey frequently came to Hamilton during these years to visit Debbie's mother, Patty Sill. When they decided to retire in 2006, they moved to Debbie's family home on West Pleasant St.

Since returning to Hamilton, the Klimans have been active in many community organizations. Debbie currently serves as Treasurer of Mid-York Senior Homes (Madison Lane) and Secretary of the Southern Madison Heritage Trust. She's a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteers at the hospital desk and with the book cart. She's active in the Chenango Canal Association and is a member of the Life Long Learning Steering Committee. She and Harvey recently taught a course on Lyme and Tick-borne Diseases for the Life Long Learning Program. Debbie was appointed by the Mayor, and serves on, the Historical Commission, the Zoning Revision Committee, and the Syracuse Symphony Committee.

You may have seen Debbie striding around the village she loves because she is an avid walker and hiker and walks almost every day for exercise. She enjoys cooking, reading, biking, music, and birding. She continues the Sill family's identification with the Hamilton First Baptist Church. But, she varies from family tradition by being a Democrat, Secretary of the Town of Hamilton Democratic Committee, and very active in the Village Democratic Committee.
